Which Walking Workout Works?

Treadmills are beneficial to all types of people who exercise. Some are looking for a low impact walk while others are more into a hard core running workout. Either way most treadmills come with preprogrammed workouts or you can come up with your own treadmill walking workout that fits your needs.

Treadmill walking workouts have proven to burn the same about of calories as walking outdoors. The pro to treadmill walking is that you can watch TV, read, or talk on the phone while doing it. Another pro for me is that I can walk on my treadmill in my exercise clothes in my own house without the judgmental eyes of others. In Walking Magazine, Dave McGovern listed 20 top treadmill walking workouts. One was called `The Retro’. `The Retro’ involved walking backwards on a treadmill for 10 to 15 minutes to strengthen your coordination, strength, and balance. Another workout, called `The Quick Step’ helped endurance and boredom. You count your steps for one minute, set a goal, and do not fall under that goal. Other workouts mentioned include workouts to help you think, relax, or catch up with friends.

The preprogrammed workouts work fine for most people. If you continue to do the same workout it may get monotonous to you and you may need to change it up. Come up with a workout that works best for your fitness level and body type. You also need to vary your workout depending on if you are just trying to stay fit and healthy or you are trying to lose weight.
